Ha-Seong Kim participates in baseball activities with Rays

TAMPA – Shortstop Ha-Seong Kim is not yet back with the Rays, but he’s going to be around the team a lot more this week.

Kim took part in pregame drills on Monday afternoon ahead of the series opener at George M. Steinbrenner Field against the Astros – a game the Rays lost 4-3.

Manager Kevin Cash described the week as “important” for the 29-year-old Kim,who missed the entire season following right shoulder surgery last October.

If all goes well, he may get some at-bats this weekend in a rehab assignment with the Florida Complex League before moving on to rehab games at higher-level minor league teams.

Considering that Kim missed a significant number of games since his injury in August last year, he needs ample time on the field and enough at-bats to be considered ready to return to the major leagues.

However, during Monday’s practice, his throws from the infield appeared stronger and more direct, and he’s been regularly participating in batting practice since spring training.
