to come. Well deserved. What an honor to play with you this year. What I loveabout you is just the way that you conduct yourself off the field and on the
field. The great teammate that you are. What an honor just to say I played
the final year in St. Louis and played I would say with one of the best firstbasemen in the game right now. So congratulations, enjoy with the family. Thefirst one but hopefully many more to come, brother,” Pujols said.

“It’s really special to have you, Albert. It was amazing to play with you.
[To have] the kids to get to witness what you did this year, it’s
unbelievable the time you took whenever we first met, eight or 10 years ago,
to coach me up and take the time to talk to me and be the example you are forme and my kids. Manny, Nolan, we all are trying to play like you, so thank
you,” Goldschmidt said.

Created by the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association in 2005, the
Heart & Hustle Award is voted on by Alumni and active Major League players
and is presented annually to an active player who demonstrates a passion for
the game of baseball and best embodies the values, spirit and traditions of
the game.

The MLBPAA formed 30 committees, comprised of Alumni players with establishedrelationships to each team. One player from each major league team is chosen
by the committees based on the passion, desire, and work ethic demonstrated
both on and off the field. As the season draws to a close, fans, all Alumni
and active players will vote to select the final winner from the 30 team
winners.

Paul Goldschmidt proves to play a critical role on the field and within his
community. During the Cardinals 2022 season, Goldschmidt recorded 178 hits,
115 RBI and 35 home runs, earning him his seventh All-Star appearance and
fifth Silver Slugger award. Beyond the diamond, Goldschmidt remains active inhis community, sponsoring an MLBPAA Legends for Youth Clinic at Busch Stadiumin the summer of 2022. The free baseball clinic for local St. Louis youth andparents was led by Goldschmidt and eight alumni members. He remains a
continued supporter of the Cardinals’ team charity, Cardinals Care, and was
nominated for the 2022 Roberto Clemente Award for his valiant efforts in
supporting local St. Louis charities as well as other various youth
organizations.
