Per an NBA source, Lacob is “always interested in looking into new opportunities” and buying the Padres might be something he would explore.

Lacob has at least twice pursued MLB teams, including an attempt to buy the Oakland A’s long before he and Peter Guber bought the Warriors in 2010 for $450 million. Lacob had a “handshake agreement” 20 years ago that went south when then-MLB Commissioner Bud Selig redirected the sale to current owner John Fisher and Lew Wolff, his former fraternity brother.

While the A’s were threatening to leave Oakland, Lacob reiterated his willingness to buy the team to keep them in the Bay Area, though it was not for sale.

Lacob also expressed interest in buying the Los Angeles Angels when owner Arte Moreno put the team up for sale in 2022, only to take the franchise off the market in 2023. The Angels are close to Lacob’s heart as he grew up a mile from Angel Stadium in Anaheim and was a peanut vendor for years there, he said on the TKShow podcast.

2022 年天使隊老闆Arte Moreno 將球隊釋出待售時，Lacob也表達過收購洛杉磯天使隊的興趣，然而Moreno最終於 2023 年撤回出售。Lacob在 TK Show 播客中提到，他對天使隊始終懷有深厚情感，因為他在安那罕長大，離天使球場只有一英里，而且年輕時曾在球場賣了好幾年花生。
