Donald Trump got a double serving of good news on Monday,

An appeals court in New York agreed to reduce a $464 million judgment againsthim in a civil fraud case to $175 million. And shares of the special-purpose
acquisition company that is merging with his Trump Media & Technology Group,
the owner of Truth Social, were up sharply.

Last week's approval of the merger between the SPAC, Digital World Acquisition Corp., and Trump Media & Technology Group means that the DWAC shares on the Nasdaq will convert to DJT stock.

That new ticker symbol, representing the former president's initials, is the same one used for Trump's casino and resorts firm, which traded on the New York Stock Exchange in the mid-1990s and early 2000s before being delisted.

TMTG said that the stock will begin trading as DJT on Tuesday.

A spokesman for the Nasdaq told Barron’s that it had no information to share about any plans for a special bell-ringing ceremony once DJT starts trading. But Trump himself was holding a news conference at his building on Wall Street Monday afternoon.

Shares of DWAC tumbled nearly 14% Friday after shareholders gave their blessing to the deal. But the stock soared more than 25% in midday trading Monday.

It has surged more than 165% so far this year as investors have latched on tothe stock despite Trump Media & Technology Group's brief history of
unprofitability. Revenue was only $3.4 million for the first three quarters of 2023, according to a regulatory filing from DWAC.

The stock market debut of TMTG gives Trump a big financial boost. Trump owns
nearly 60% of TMTG's shares. Based on where DWAC stock was trading Monday,

Trump is barred from selling those shares until a six-month lockup period
expires, but he could seek a waiver from investors to do so sooner. Any big

News that the bond has been lowered will reduce the pressure on the former
president to sell stock. Alina Habba, a lawyer for Trump, said his team was "extremely pleased" with the ruling.

Devin Nunes, the former longtime Republican congressman from California who
stepped down from the House in 2022 to become the CEO of TMTG, said in a
statement that TMTG was looking to grow. “As we transition into a public
company, we look forward to greatly enhancing and expanding Truth Social,”
Nunes said in a press release.

TMTG doesn't disclose user metrics for Truth Social. But according to data
from the traffic analytics site Similarweb, Truth Social had five million
mobile and desktop visits in February. That is well below the traffic for
mainstream social media sites such as Meta Platforms owned Facebook and Instagram, Alphabet's YouTube, Elon Musk's X (formerly Twitter), the newly publicly traded Reddit, and TikTok.
