Dominic Thiem heading to Boston for Laver Cup 2021

World No.3 and US Open champion Dominic Thiem has confirmed he will be
heading to Boston for next year’s Laver Cup to be held at the iconic TD
Garden from September 24-26, 2021.

Thiem has just completed a banner 2020 season. He was runner-up at the
Australian Open in January before capturing his first Grand Slam title at theUS Open in New York in September. Last week his blistering form continued as
he defeated Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic to reach the final at the season
ending ATP Finals in London for the second year in a row.

Thiem will be part of Bjorn Borg’s Team Europe in the Laver Cup, joining
20-time Grand Slam champion and tennis superstar Roger Federer, who is also
confirmed to take part.

“The Laver Cup is a fantastic event and I’m really excited to be a part of
Team Europe for the Boston edition,” Thiem said.

“I’ve been lucky enough to be on the winning side at two of the three Laver
Cups so far – in Prague and Geneva, and it’s a really unique event, like no
other on the tour. I’m really looking forward to helping Team Europe
capture a fourth title.

It’s so cool to be competing as part of a team with guys I’m normally
facing across the net. We have so much fun together, but I also still learn alot from the likes of Roger and Bjorn who have so much experience in the game.

Team Captain Borg is also delighted that Thiem will once again be part of histeam as he looks to maintain his impeccable record of winning the Laver Cup
each year since the inaugural event in Prague in 2017.

“Dom has had an incredible season, despite the unprecedented circumstances.
He consistently performs at the top level and it was great to see him win hisfirst Slam earlier in the year in New York.

“With him and Roger confirmed I feel we’ve got a great foundation, but for
sure we’ll need to be in top form as each year Team World get tougher and
tougher and my great friend and rival John McEnroe will be hungrier than everto win in front of a home crowd!”

“We’re thrilled that Dom has committed to join Team Europe in 2021,” Laver
Cup CEO Steve Zacks added. “Next year’s competition at TD Garden in one of
the world’s greatest sports cities will be incredible for players and fans
alike and we cannot wait.”

The fourth edition of the Laver Cup will take place at TD Garden, Boston,
from September 24-26, 2021. Team Europe hoisted the trophy at the inaugural
event in Prague in 2017, Chicago in 2018 and Geneva in 2019. This year’s
event scheduled to take place in Boston was postponed until 2021.

Team World is captained by John McEnroe. Additional players will be announcedin due course.
