[閒聊] Braves and Jorge Soler

The Marlins are only a few games under .500, but it is enough for them to throw in the towel before the trade deadline. Earlier today, MLB insider Jon Heyman reported that Miami is willing to listen to offers on every player not named Sandy Alcantara, which includes last year’s World Series MVP Jorge Soler. A
reunion with the Braves makes sense.

With the Fish this season, Soler is slashing .207/.295/.400 with a .695 OPS and 13 home runs in 72 games. Those aren’t exactly encouraging numbers, but Braves Country remembers what happened last season, when a change of scenery didSoler wonders.

Atlanta acquired Soler from the Royals when he was hitting much worse than hecurrently is with the Marlins. Then, he went nuclear with the Braves — hitting more home runs in nearly half the games with Atlanta compared to Kansas City. It’s very possible Soler is much more comfortable with the Braves, and re-joining the team could result in an uptick in his offense.

Soler has been dealing with back issues on and off this season, but the Braves know what he’s capable of when healthy. Some might say a
deal within the division makes this potential trade unrealistic, but the Marlins traded Duvall to the Braves at last year’s deadline. Who knows if that will make them less willing to do so again this season.

I also wouldn’t count out a reunion. The fit and the need is once again there between the Braves and Soler.
