魯賓遜漂流記的書名雖然特別長，不過很長的一段時間，就是不少作者都愛用這種書名。

這種風氣差不多是從文藝復興開始的，而且似乎英國作家特別偏愛這種，以下是一些大家熟知的經典作品的真正標題：

烏托邦(1516)
A little, true book, not less beneficial than enjoyable, about how things should be in a state and about the new island Utopia
(一本關於一個國家的一切該是如何，以及一座嶄新的島嶼「烏托邦」的小小、真實，至少是有趣的書)

唐吉軻德(1605)

哈姆雷特(1600)

物種始源(1859)
On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life
(由生存競爭中得到天擇或偏愛而得以存活的物種的「物種始源」)

綜觀歷史，還是非常多的書名就是短小精悍，像是浮士德、傲慢與偏見、悲慘世界等；不過總之，喜歡長標題的人，自古以來就是屢見不鮮吧。
